Maddie is a singer, composer, pianist, and teacher. They’re classically trained in piano and voice and have been exploring opera singing for the last four years. At CalArts they’ve expanded their knowledge base, working with Ableton and Protools to create sound design, surround sound, and engineer mixes of their work.
They currently work on the CalArts lighting and audio/video theater crew, and live mixed the fall play last semester.
Artist Statement:
Maddie Goldsborough is a nonbinary, disabled artist from Philadelphia who currently resides in Los Angeles as they finish their degree at California Institute of the Arts. Maddie is fascinated by the intersection of performer and composer and asks: how can composers invite performers into the composition process? This is reflected in their creation of scores incorporating improvisation and choices made by the performers. Maddie also creates sound design for animation, live mixes for theater shows, engineers mixes and masters for original songs, designs multimedia installations, and sings in 8tps, a trans and gender expansive choir. Throughout their work they are focused on centering original expression of the people involved, trying to amplify those with traditionally marginalized identities. They believe music making should be accessible to all, and hope to invite more people into the practice through their music. //
